Our History

Our food council launched in January of 2015, by emphasizing heavily on the grower and community needs of our county.  We hosted a free Growers Summit, bringing experts on seasonal extension, sustainable farming, and pastured meat production to meet with our local food growers.  We also began work on a county Food Hub, launched Geneva Farmers Market, hosted a summer film series, and help our first canning workshop for Ashtabula County Community Action Agency’s My Neighborhood.

2016 saw the launch of a cooperative marketing effort supporting all five county markets, with funds provided by the Ashtabula Local Food Council covering a large ad with Ashtabula County Convention and Visitors Bureau, as well as a website designed to foster community awareness of the farmers markets.  We continued to grow our online Local Food Guide and hosted a series of Farm Tours that were featured with Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association.  Ashtabula Cooks!, our largest project of 2016, provided a seasonal cooking workshop series with My Neighborhood.
